Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to offer an introductory treatment of the differential equation the Schrodinger wave equation.  For the sake of both brevity and simplicity, only the time-independent wave equation in one-dimension will be considered.  By way of this, the historical developments that gave rise to this equation that is so integral to quantum physics will be addressed.  Further, to illustrate the equation, the particle in a rigid box model is examined.
