OBJECTIVE: This course is designed to prepare you for beginning algebra. You will also be given an opportunity to strengthen your basic arithmetic skills. The prerequisite for this course is Math 372, or an appropriate score on the math placement test. We will be using calculators extensively in this course. If you don't have a calculator I would strongly advise you to purchase one. There are many different types and brands available, if I find a good deal I'll let you know. Click Here for the link to the official course outline.

Course Learning Outcomes:

These are the things a student will be able to do as a result of successfully completing this course.

  1. Read, write, and speak accurately about mathematical ideas using correct mathematical notation.
  2. Apply mathematics they have learned to real world problems and applications.
  3. Demonstrate competency in the required prerequiste skills for elementary algebra.
  4. Demonstrate the characteristics of an effective learner.
  5. Perform symbolic manipulations that will support success in the other outcomes

HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned every class meeting, and is due on Mondays and Thursdays of each week. LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!!! If you can't get the assignment in on time make sure that you know the material because you will still be held responsible for the information. Click Here for Homework Assignment sheet.

QUIZZES: Quizzes will be given several times during the semester. The quiz questions will usually cover material given in the homework. MAKE-UP QUIZZES WILL NOT BE GIVEN.

TESTS: There will be five 100-point exams given over the semester, as well as a 100 point comprehensive final exam. MAKE-UP TESTS WILL NOT BE GIVEN unless you notify me in advance.

ATTENDANCE: One of the most important things that you can do to succeed in this course is to attend every class meeting. It is the policy of the math department to drop students for excessive absences. This means that if you miss more than five class meetings you may be dropped from the course. If you have to miss class, make prior arrangements to turn in your homework, as well as to get any notes or materials covered that day.

MATH 376L - The Math Lab for Pre-Algebra: All students are encouraged to sign up for Math 376L (The Math Lab for Pre-Algebra). You can receive help on your homework questions, or work on computer tutorials. The Math Lab is located in the Academic Support Center (ASC) in the back part of the Library. You can sign up for the Math Lab by going to the ASC during the first week of class.
