The Cornell Theory Center's Supercomputing Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR)
Offers students the opportunity to pursue a computational science
research project at Cornell University. Undergraduate students are selected from colleges
and universities across the nation to come to Cornell during the summer to work on a
specific research project under the guidance of a Cornell faculty or staff member. Theory
Center staff teach the students how to use the high performance computing resources and
follow up with consulting assistance throughout the program. Students receive a stipend
and have many program expenses paid.

Students work on research projects in their fields of interest
across the spectrum of disciplines that make up computational science. Each student is
supervised by faculty at his or her home institution and/or a faculty member at University
of California, San Diego (UCSD), and by SDSC staff. The program includes workshops on high

and scientific visualization, and numerical analysis.

IAS/PARK CITY Mathematics Institute Undergraduate Program
The IAS/Park City Mathematics Institute provides opportunities for
talented undergraduate students to enhance their interest in mathematics. This program is
open to undergraduate students at all levels, from first-year students to those who have
just completed their undergraduate education. Based on the backgrounds of the accepted
students, they will be divided into two groups--introductory and advanced. There will be
several activities organized for these groups, with some specifically intended for either
the introductory or advanced group. There will be time for study groups and individual
projects guided by advisors, as well as other activities.

Research Experience for Undergraduates at DIMACS
Center for Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS) invites applications for a NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. DIMACS is one of 25 Science and Technology Centers funded by the NSF. It is located at Rutgers University, and is a joint project of Rutgers, Princeton, AT&T Laboratories, Bell Laboratories, and Bellcore. DIMACS has over 120 permanent members in mathematics, computer science, and operations research, and hosts many distinguished visitors each year.
The program begins with eight weeks of intensive work during the
summer of 1997; students are strongly encouraged to continue their projects during the
academic year 1997-98. We expect that eight to twelve undergraduates will be selected to
participate. Each will have a DIMACS faculty member as a supervisor. Research topics this
year may include modeling the 3D-structure of DNA, decision-making under uncertainty,
combinatorics (Ramsey theory), and computational group theory. More topics will be posted
as mentors become available
