Connecting to the MSEMac Server from a Mac Client

This guide will step you through the process of connecting to MSEMac, accessing your files, and disconnecting when you are done. Follow along with the step-by-step instructions and screenshots as you work on your own computer.
  1. In the Finder, find the "Go" menu in your menubar at the top of the screen.
  2. Open the Go menu, and select the "Connect to Server…" option.
  3. In the resulting window, type "msemac.redwoods.edu" into the "Server Address" field and click "Connect."
  4. You will see a window similar to the one below. If the connection process seems to take more than one or two minutes, press the "x" button and start over.
  5. After your computer has connected to MSEMac, you will need to type in your username and password. Type your username in the "Name" field and your password in the "Password" field. Before pressing "Connect," press the "gear" button and choose "Options…."
  6. In the resulting dialog box, ensure that only the first two checkboxes are checked. Then press "OK," and then press "Connect" in the previous window. This step need only be completed once.
  7. You will be prompted to choose a volume to mount (load onto your computer). Select the item in the list that corresponds to your username, and press "OK."
  8. After a short delay, you will see a new window appear which represents your files on MSEMac. You can interact with this window, drag files into and out of it, open things from within it, and treat it just like a part of your computer.
  9. When you are done working on MSEMac, locate the "remote volume" icon on your desktop. It will have the same name as your username.
  10. Select the remote volume and drag it into the trash can in your dock, which will change into an "eject" symbol. This unmounts the volume (removes it from your computer) and completes the process.
