Computer Labs --- Code of Conduct
In the physical sciences building, there are three rooms (PS116, PS119, and PS110) that are used both as computer labs and group study areas for our students in mathematics and science. If you use these rooms during the school year, it is important that you follow certain rules of decorum.
First and foremost, use common sense and understand that there are faculty and students nearby who are trying to get work done. Keep the noise down, be polite, and try not to disturb those who are trying to study, prepare lessons, and maintain office hours. Please understand that the use of these rooms is a privilege, not a right, and the privilege of using these rooms will be revoked if you are not respectful of the rights of all who use these rooms.
Guidelines
Here are some rules of decorum that should be maintained at all times.
- Show good manners and be respectful towards all you encounter in these rooms.
- Please, no profanity or vulgar language, and keep the noise level down. Do not shout across the room to another student or colleague, and do not listen to music through the speakers.
- Under no circumstances are you allowed to bring food into any of these rooms. Eat your lunch outside.
- You may have drinks in these rooms under one condition: your drink container must have a screw-on lid. In the case of the rooms with computers, please do not place these containers anywhere on the counters that support the computers. For example, in PS116, you may place your drink container on the center table, but not on the counters supporting computers.
- The computers in these rooms are to be used for mathematics and science projects, activities, homework, and research. This type of use always holds preference over computer games, english assignments, etc. You must relinquish your seat in this case.
- Please place backpacks under the table or computer counters. Keep the aisles clear for foot traffic at all times.
- When logged onto a computer, you are responsible for any violation of computer use. Keep this in mind if you are considering giving your login to another student. You will be held responsible for anything that student does on the computer under your login. You might want to think twice about lending your login and password to another student.
- Please clean up after yourself when you leave the room. That is, pickup and recycle all scratch paper, place all clutter in the trash, and push your chair back under the table or computer counter.
Show Respect
Any complaints received for any violations of the guidelines and use of the study rooms described above will result in a loss of computer privileges. If you are asked by any faculty or staff member to tone down your behavior, any show of disrespect will result in an immediate loss of computer privileges.
The simplest approach is to show good manners and maintain a decorum that is conducive to study at all times.
