College of the Redwoods is pleased to participate in Math Awareness Week 1998: Mathematics and Images by featuring a sampling of student projects from our Linear Algebra class of fall semester 1997. As a part of the curriculum of this course, students are given the freedom to independently pursue a topic of their interest that falls under the rubric of linear algebra. This gives the student an opportunity to discover the utility of linear algebra through its applications and synthesis its meaning for themselves. In accordance with the theme of this special week, the projects featured here are those that help to illustrate the relationship between mathematics and images. If you find these works interesting, other works from that course not pertaining to images can be found on our Linear Algebra Projects page. Topics are wide ranging: everything from the NFL quarterback rating system to fractals. Some of the works included herein are available only in Scientific Notebook
and Adobe Acrobat formats, since creating an HTML document that involves
extensive mathematics is rather arduous. Therefore, if you don't
have one of the above loaded on your computer, you will need to download
either a Scientific Notebook
file viewer or Abode
Acrobat Reader.
