~*~ GATE Academy ~*~
The Eel River Valley Math Vertical Team, will provide the Keynote Presentation and the Parent Presentation at this year's GATE Academy on January 10, 2006.

9:00-9:50 a.m. Keynote Presentation in Van Duzer Theater, at HSU
10:10-11:25 a.m. Parent Presentation (in Van Duzer Theater)

The presentations will be given by the following members of the Eel River Valley Math Vertical Team:

Rob Marshall, Fortuna High School
Cathy Clark, Toddy Thomas School, Rohnerville
Mollie Holmgren, Monument Middle School, Rio Dell
Blaine Sigler, Cuddeback School, Carlotta
Michael Butler and Tami Matsumoto, College of the Redwoods

There will be 600 to 800 GATE students, grades 4 to 8, from all over Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. The students will all attend the Keynote Presentation, then they will have two class sessions, in groups of 25 or so, led by many teachers and community members, on all different topics. At the Keynote, our plan is to present a few math topics that we hope will pique their interest in the breadth of areas of mathematics they could choose to study (or just learn more about). The GATE committee works hard to find a different type of presentation every year ... last year, three high school history teachers did the Keynote Presentation.
